Effects of electrical brain stimulation on brain indices and presence experience in immersive, interactive virtual reality

چکیده

Abstract The subjective presence experience in virtual reality (VR) is associated with distinct brain activation patterns. Particularly, the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) seems to play a central role. We investigated effects of electric stimulation (transcranial direct current, tDCS) on as well activity and connectivity. Thirty-eight participants received either anodal ( N = 18) or cathodal 20) DLPFC before interacting an immersive VR sham stimulation. During interaction, EEG heart rate were recorded. After rated their using standardized questionnaires. Cathodal led stronger connectivity than Increased was numerically lower levels presence. Anodal did not lead changes connectivity, no differences ratings found between These results indicate that tDCS over leads more synchronized state, which might hamper networks, are generally evolvement experience. Our underline importance for VR.

Presence and Memory: Immersive Virtual Reality Effects on Cued Recall

Presence, the psychological experience of “being there,” is an important construct to consider when investigating the impact of mediated experiences on cognition. Though several studies have investigated the influence of presence on the memory of virtual environments (i.e. recalling virtual objects), few have tested how presence impacts memory on subsequent tasks in the physical world. Thirty-t...

The effects of locus coeruleus electrical stimulation on brain waves of morphine dependent rats

Introduction: Opiates cause dependency via affect on central nervous system. Locus coeruleus nucleus is a main group of noradrenergic neurons in the brain that plays an important role in the expression of opioid withdrawal signs. During opioid withdrawal, brain waves change in addition to physical and behavioral signs. In this study, we examined the effects of locus coeruleus electrical sti...

Immersive Interactive Virtual Reality in the Museum

The use of immersive Virtual Reality (VR) technology is a relatively recent trend enjoyed almost exclusively by the academic, military, and industrial research and development communities. However, as VR technologies mature, research is expanding from the military and scientific visualisation realm into more multidisciplinary areas, such as education, art, culture, and the humanities. As repres...

The Illusion of Presence in Immersive Virtual Reality during an fMRI Brain Scan

The essence of immersive virtual reality (VR) is the illusion it gives users that they are inside the computer-generated virtual environment. This unusually strong illusion is theorized to contribute to the successful pain reduction observed in burn patients who go into VR during woundcare (www.vrpain.com) and to successful VR exposure therapy for phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTS...
